FARMS ADAPTED FOR THE FUTURE

FARMS ADAPTED FOR THE FUTURE

What is Agriclimate?

Agriclimate is a project initiated by Quebec farmers with the goal of understanding what climate change means for agriculture and implementing the best practices in response.

PILOT FARMS NETWORK

As part of Phase 2 (2021–2024), our pilot farms will work in close collaboration to develop a new method for determining the most suitable actions for individual businesses. Representatives from these farms and their advisors will work together on the three pillars of fighting climate change: adapting farm businesses to the future climate, reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and increasing carbon sequestration. At the end of the three years, the project results will be made available to all farm producers and advisors in Quebec.

The Approach

Participation is a key element of the project; this allows farmers and other agricultural stakeholders to learn more about climate change, determine the impacts it will have for the different production types, and identify the adaptation measures best suited to the different regions.

The Regions

The regions participating in this project account for most of the farmland in Quebec. Farmers in the regions participate in regional activities along with other stakeholders in the sector.

The Agriclimate project (“Farms adapted for the future”) receives financial support from the government of Quebec under its Action-Climat Québec program and serves the objectives of the 2030 Plan for a Green Economy.
